Baidu invests $22 million in Israeli company Dynamic Yield

The Israeli company specializes in large-scale personalization of content and is the developer of a platform that enables marketers to perform automatic customization for users

Israeli start-up, Dynamic Yield, raised $22 million in the third round, led by Vertex Ventures and ClalTech (the technology arm of Clal Industries, a wholly owned subsidiary of American company Access Industries), together with Baidu and Global Founders Capital. Existing investors also participated in this round: The New York Times, Bessemer Venture Partners, venture capital fund Marker LLP and Innovation Endeavors. Dynamic raised $14 million in previous rounds.

In a conversation with Calcalist, Liad Agmon, founder and CEO of Dynamic, stated that the company plans on using the money to expand its activity extensively.

In recent years, the field of website and application personalization has become important for many Israeli companies such as Taboola and Outbrain, which offer the various publishers tools that allow them to tailor content offers to user needs. Agmon is aware that what he has overlap with the two Israeli companies, but said, “We only overlap to a very small degree, and we have a great deal of activity with websites that are not publishers. Furthermore, many websites use our technology to decide which system from among the various native ones is better and works well with their site.”

Dynamic Yield’s platform helps marketers increase their revenues through automatic personalization of website content, cellular sites, applications or marketing e-mails that the website sends its customers, according to the user. Dynamic personalizes content for more than 500 million users and continues to expand its global presence. The company currently employees over 100 employees at six sites worldwide, with most in Israel, and according to company data, 60% of the employees are data scientists and engineers.

“Dynamic Yield created a completely new field by developing a specialty in large-scale personalization,” said Aviad Ariel, a partner in Vertex Ventures. “After putting together a very strong technology team, the company can now fully leverage the tremendous opportunities awaiting in the markets.”

Daniel Shinar, CEO of ClalTech, added, “Marketing professionals are dying for innovative solutions that will let them personalize the Internet experience for every user. Dynamic Yield changes the rules of the game on the market by providing a comprehensive, powerful and easily implemented solution that allows marketing professionals to create a personalized experience for each and every user, from any device.” As part of this round of funding, Aviad Ariel of Vertex and Daniel Shinar of ClalTech will join Dynamic Yield’s Board of Directors.
